It's been another lovely week in Year 3!

We finished our current writing unit this week by meeting a very scary witch! We came up with some amazing ways to describe them and wrote some fantastic pieces of writing with our skills we have been practising since the start of term. In maths, we have been practising our column method and adding 3-digit numbers.

We are coming to the end of our class book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Only two children are left, and we have been predicting what will happen next! In PSHE, we shared a lovely lesson on our friends and what makes them special. We shared a kind message about why a friend in our class is special and thought about how we could help friends to resolve issues. This week in Art, we were able to use our knowledge of drawing textures to draw an animal of our choice. Our History lesson saw us go on a very exciting walk around school to learn about foraging and understand what food some of the first humans (hunter-gatherers) might have found.

What a lovely week we've had in Year 3!

We started off our week with a trip to Northampton Library. It was a fantastic experience to learn all about how the library works, where to find different stories and how to take books home. We had a lovely time choosing a book to read, completing a treasure hunt, and creating a poster to display in the library.

Back at school, we have continued our writing learning by exploring an extremely scary troll's house, and a magical fairy garden! We created some fantastic spine poems to describe these. In maths, we have moved on to our new unit recapping addition and subtraction.

We have continued to enjoy our class novel this half term of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Not only has Augustus Gloop fallen in the chocolate river, but now Violet Beauregard has turned into a blueberry! We are so excited to find out what will happen next. In PSHE, we have been working on resolving problems with our friends and how to compromise. Our exploration of textures continued in Art and we had a fantastic lesson drawing the textures in objects we saw on the playground.

This half term the children have been consolidating their learning from last years writing. They have been practising their description and writing about wizards, mythical creatures and precious crystals. In maths we have been recapping place value, comparing and ordering numbers and will be moving onto finding patterns in numbers up to 1000.

Our class novel this half term is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the children have really engaged with the story so far and we cant wait to see what happends next in the book. In computing the chidlren are learning about online safety and how to keep themselves safe online both at home and at school whilst in history the children have been learning about the first humans. During science the chidlren are learning about forces and magnets whilst in art they are developing their sketching techniques. We have had a great first few weeks back are very excited for all our new learning opportunities that are coming up.
