This week in FS2, we have been developing our learning on minibeasts in science and during our Talk for Writing bumble bee story. The children have been labelling key parts of minibeasts and comparing similarities and differences. In maths, we have been challenging ourselves with exploring numbers all the way up to 20 and beyond! We have also been on a hunt around school to identify human and physical features in our Geography lesson.

This week, Hedgehogs and Squirrels were immersed into their new Talk for Writing text by going on a hunt to find the key to unlock the mystery box that appeared in their classroom. Luckily, Mrs Robinson found the key and the children discovered a sleepy bumblebee who was hiding from all the noise around school. They have also been exploring lots of features of other minibeasts and signs of Spring in Science. In Maths, the children have begun to explore numbers 11, 12 and 13 and consolidating their number bonds to ten!

This week, FS2 have immersing themselves into our Talk For Writing story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been building bridges over the stream in our outdoor construction area, acting out the story map in our English lessons and been searching for the mean troll. In Geography, Hedgehogs and Squirrels have been learning about the world and finding lots of different countries on the globe. Lots of children were excited to find the different countries that their families are from. It has also been lovely to see the children create stories and performances on our stage outside using the masks they made in the Atelier.

This week, FS2 have been learning about lots of different celebrations that will be taking place over the February half term. We have immersed ourselves in Chinese new year in our role play area, creating dragon masks, dressing up in traditional clothes and learning all about the year of the horse. In R.E, lots of children shared their personal experiences visiting a mosque and spoke about why it is a special place for themselves and their families. We also began to look at the celebration of Ramadan. Finally, we have begun to practise our baking for Shrove Tuesday by exploring skills such as pouring and mixing in the sand area .

In FS2 this week, we have been learning lots about our local history. The children have been amazed that there once stood a castle right where our school is now…a long long long time ago! They have enjoyed building their own castles with draw bridges, turrets and battlements. Hedgehogs and Squirrels have also been working very hard writing up their innovated Baby Mouse stories. This includes stories about roaring lions, mummy elephants and spotty ladybirds. In our Atelier, we have been focusing on the brush work of Van Gogh and observational drawing of flowers.
