What a fantastic week of learning it has been in Year 4!
Maths:
The children have been continuing their work on multiplication, with a special focus on the 11 times table and spotting the patterns within it. They are really enjoying learning all of their times tables and are showing great enthusiasm for the Rolling Number songs as they prepare for their MTC at the end of the year.
Writing:
In English, the children have continued learning the model text Magical Machine Captures Child. This week, they explored key skills from the writing toolkit and particularly enjoyed taking part in drama activities. The hot-seating sessions—where they pretended to be different characters from the story—were a real highlight!
Science:
We started our new unit on Electricity. The children began by sorting different household appliances into those that are mains powered and those that use batteries. They showed excellent reasoning and curiosity.
Humanities:
In our study of Ancient Egypt, the children learned why farmers were so respected and vital to Egyptian society. They also enjoyed examining hieroglyphics and thinking about what they can teach us about the past.
We are also incredibly proud of the children for their wonderful singing in assembly this morning.
Keep up the great work, Year 4!

Year 4 have had another busy and exciting week as we approach the end of Autumn 1!
On Monday, the children visited a local Gurdwara, where they learned about Sikh key beliefs and enjoyed exploring the museum — especially seeing the 5 K’s, which they’ve been studying in RE. Our Hindu children particularly enjoyed comparing similarities and differences between Hinduism and Sikhism. We’re looking forward to visiting a local church next week to continue exploring and comparing different religions.
In Maths, the children began a new topic on addition and subtraction, impressing us with their confident use of the column method with renaming and their excellent presentation. In English, they explored their text in more detail by identifying suspense features and boxing up in preparation for their shared write next week.
In Science, they investigated what happens to sound as you move further from the source — a fascinating experiment that sparked lots of curiosity!
Well done for another brilliant week, Year 4!

Year 4 have had a very busy week with it being assessment week. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and resilience – they worked so hard, and we can’t wait to see their progress over time!
In Humanities, the children travelled back in time to explore the story of the River Nene. They found it fascinating to learn about a river so close to home and enjoyed making connections to their local area.
In Science, our focus on sound continued. The children learnt about the different parts of the ear and how each one works together to help us hear. A real highlight was creating 3D models of the ear out of playdough and carefully labelling each part – a fantastic mix of creativity and science in action!
Well done, Year 4, for another brilliant week of learning!

This week has been a busy and exciting one for the children!
In Maths, we have started our first unit on place value, with a particular focus on partitioning 4-digit numbers. The children have been practising breaking numbers down and have shown great enthusiasm in applying their skills.
In English, the children have been continuing their consolidation unit, developing their descriptive writing skills. They have been working hard to bring their ideas to life using rich vocabulary and detail.
In Humanities, we began our new topic on how rivers shape civilisations. The children explored the importance of rivers and enjoyed labelling some of the key rivers in the United Kingdom.
In Reading, the class have started reading How to Train Your Dragon. They are already thoroughly enjoying the story and engaging with its adventurous themes.
In Science, the children continued their exploration of sound. A highlight of the week was conducting an experiment to make telephones using different types of string. This hands-on activity helped them understand how sound travels through different mediums to reach our ears—an experiment they absolutely loved!
Great work Year 4!
