In English, the children have been innovating the story The Papaya That Spoke by changing the characters and creating their own imaginative versions of the story. They also added new settings, carefully describing where their characters live using exciting vocabulary and descriptive sentences. We have loved seeing their creativity shine through in their writing!

In Maths, we began our new learning on 2D shapes. The children explored the sides and vertices of different shapes and confidently identified these features. We then moved on to investigating lines of symmetry, where the children enjoyed spotting symmetrical shapes and discussing their properties.

Our Science lessons this week were full of excitement as we investigated which ball was the bounciest! The children explored different materials and discussed which types of balls might create a higher elastic bounce effect. They made predictions and observations like real scientists, and we are looking forward to completing the practical investigation next week.

On Friday, we celebrated the 100th birthday of David Attenborough. The children were very curious to learn about who he is and why he is such an important figure in helping us understand and protect our world. What a fantastic week it has been!

In English, we focused on describing different characters. As a class, we discussed what the characters were doing and how they were moving, helping us to explore the use of verbs and adverbs. The children shared some fantastic ideas and worked hard to bring their characters to life through their descriptions.

In Maths, we continued our learning on money, developing a deeper understanding of how change works. The children practised using different amounts and worked out how much change they would receive, building their confidence with real-life money skills.

Our History learning was especially memorable this week, as we had a visit from the local fire brigade. They taught us all about The Great Fire of Northampton, explaining how it started and what happened during this important event. The children were also fascinated to learn fun facts about Great Fire of London and made great connections between the two events.

It has been a fantastic week, and we are so proud of the children’s curiosity, engagement, and hard work. Well done, Year 2!

t has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school! They have returned full of enthusiasm and excitement, eager to learn and engage in all areas of the curriculum. Their positive attitudes have made for a brilliant start to the term.

The children have been particularly inquisitive about our new lunchtime play programme, OPAL Learning. They have loved exploring new activities, showing curiosity, creativity, and teamwork during their play.

In English, we have been writing character descriptions based on the tiger from The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We revisited key skills such as expanded noun phrases, adverbs, and similes to help bring our descriptions to life, and the results have been fantastic.

In Maths, we have been learning to identify money, including notes and coins, and have started adding amounts together to find totals.

Looking ahead, in Science we will be exploring the properties of materials, while in History we have begun learning about The Great Fire of Northampton, including where and how it started.

It’s been a joy to see the children so happy and eager to be back!

This week in Year 2, we have begun innovating our story of Jack and the Beanstalk by changing the characters and magical objects. The children have impressed us with the amazing adjectives they have chosen to describe their new characters. In Maths, we have been learning about length and practising how to measure accurately using rulers in metres and centimetres. Our Science learning has focused on what happens to our bodies when we exercise, including how our heart, lungs and muscles work, and why exercise is important for our health. In Geography, we compared the UK with Brazil, exploring similarities and differences in climate, culture, scenery, clothing, homes and schools.

This week in Year 2, we have been busy learners across all of our subjects. In English, we focused on writing character descriptions, exploring how to use adjectives to describe what a character looks like and verbs to show what a character is doing. In Maths, we practised column addition by adding two-digit numbers with one-digit numbers, using concrete resources such as counters and place value equipment, as well as pictorial methods to build our understanding. In Science, we explored the microhabitats around Spring Lane Primary School, investigating the different areas of our school grounds to see what living animals we could find and discussing how each habitat provides for their needs. The children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm. We are very proud of all their hard work this week.
