We take attendance very seriously at Spring Lane Primary School. We expect the children to be in school and ready to learn every day. No holidays will be authorised in term time. If your child's attendance drops below 95% you will be invited for a meeting to help us support you in improving their attendance.
Holidays During Term Time
Please note that we can no longer authorise any holiday taken during term time. Since September 2013 it has become a criminal offence to take your child out of school during term time and you will be breaking the law. You will be issued with a penalty notice which may lead to you being fined and potentially prosecuted!
Current penalties are as follows:
An initial fixed penalty notice of £60 is issued to each parent for each child.
Schools are monitored by Ofsted and the Department for Education for pupil attendance. Low pupil attendance can result in a school being judged inadequate. Children have 38 weeks in school a year. That leaves 14 weeks every year for holidays to be taken. We work hard to make sure the children have the best possible education but taking them out of school is disappointing and frustrating.
All holidays are unauthorized and fines are issued by the local authority. Taking them out a week or two before the end of the Summer term means they have no education for 2 months.
We have decided that anyone going on holiday will need to collect a work pack to be completed and returned to the school on the child’s first day back. As a parent/carer you will need to work with the child to ensure that they keep learning and improving their reading, writing and maths. We would appreciate a contribution of £10 per pack to cover the costs of the material.
Please see the work expectations for term-time holiday/absence form that you will be given before your child's absence.
If your child is ill and cannot attend school, please call us the first day they are absent on 01604 639114 to let us know.
School starts at 8.55am every morning and finishes at 3.15pm every afternoon. However, school is open from 8.45 to ensure that your child is in class ready to start their day.
