At Spring Lane school we aim to provide a connected, purposeful, broad and balanced education, that develops children as individuals and independent learners.
An integral part of this is the teaching of PSHE. Taught as a discreet subject, PSHE lessons are for 40 minutes every week on Friday afternoons across the whole school. It is delivered in a variety of formats from circle time, discussion and debate, team games, videos clips and drama. All lessons are engaging and children are encouraged to share their own views and opinions about issues and topics. We understand that we have our own minds and that we can make our decisions, however we need to know and understand other peoples ideas and views in order to make our own judgements and become ‘well rounded’ as individuals.
Staff have planned within year groups for the children in their classes, based on current knowledge, experiences or misconceptions and build on this to create children who are able to make ‘educated’ decisions. We try to deal with issues that are current particularly addressing any relevant issues that may occur in the news.
