I cannot believe that a year has passed since I joined Spring Lane Primary School. What a year it has been! We have moved into a new building, welcomed lots of new staff, introduced lots of events to the children including sports festivals and a wide range of after school activities. The schools’ assessment results are the best ever for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Thank you for your support. We wish those families moving on, all the best for the future and hope everyone has an enjoyable Summer break.
The children can wear their own clothes on Tuesday 21st July 2015.
We will be monitoring uniform closely from September. All children will be expected to be wearing the correct clothes and shoes, at all times. This includes leggings and tights. Please see the previous newsletter on our website for details.
We are now on twitter! If you want to follow the school the account is @springlanepri
As you will be aware from the media, parents are not allowed to take their children on holiday during term time. We are monitored for pupil attendance and what we do to ensure pupils attend school every day. For the first time 55 families achieved 100% attendance – well done.
From September 2015 we will be introducing the fines for holidays in term time to be in line with all other schools. The money is collected and kept by the local authority. Current charges are as follows: £60 per children per parent per week. For example; a family of four with two children going on holiday for a week would be £240.
This year we have noticed a lot of families taking children back to their home country before the end of term. The children are missing their education as each final week is a Science week across school.
Please look at the dates below and make sure holidays are booked in these times.

Six weeks off school is a long time, please help your child at home by spending 10 minutes a day reading together. The libraries have a fantastic range of books. If you have extra time, try to keep your children writing, practising their spellings and times tables. Workbooks are always useful and can be found in many shops like The Works or WHSmith. If you do not speak English as a family at home try to have two days a week when you all speak English it will help your child when they get back to school.
If your children are outside during the holiday please remind them not to talk to strangers. When the children are on their computers and tablets spend time reminding them about online dangers and not ‘speaking’ to people they don’t know over the internet. We want to make sure everyone is safe and has a happy holiday.
Thank you again for your support this year.
