I would like to start by telling you how proud I am of the excellent behaviour and hard work demonstrated by all of our pupils over the last term. Thanks for all of your support with reading at home and for the effort you are making to get your children to school on time each day. As we are approaching the end of our first term I thought it would be good to share some reminders and important dates with you.
New School Website – www.springlaneprimary .com
I am pleased to inform you that we have now launched our new school website and this should be the first place to look if you want to find out information about our school, see the school newsletters and information on your child’s class. Each class will have a page where staff will update up you on the exciting events happening in school and key information. There will also be regular activities for your child to work on at home and links to sites that will support their learning.
Our Parent Governors will be working with you to organise internet access sessions for families who do not have internet access at home. Printed copies of newsletters will also be available on request from the school office.
Please remember school times and help your children’s learning by getting to school on time:
School Starts 8.55am – please note the gate will be closed at 9.00am.
School Ends 3.15pm – please be on time as being left after school can be upsetting for young children.
No holidays are allowed in term time. If your child is ill please ring the school office in the morning. If your child has an appointment in the school day please bring the appointment letter to the school office for our records.
The pupils’ entrance is the gate at the top of Scarletwell Street. Children should not be dropped off at the main office in the morning or collected from the main office in the evening.
Winter Weather Clothing
As the weather is becoming colder can you please ensure your child is sensibly dressed for outdoor play. They should have a warm coat, hat and gloves and sensible black footwear.
The children will continue to have outside PE lessons throughout the year. They do need to wear warm clothes including a black or navy tracksuit and trainers.
Homework - READING
Thank you to those parents/carers who have been hearing their children read each week. You have an important part to play in ensuring your children become good readers. Keep up the hard work over the holidays. Perhaps take your child to visit the town library and borrow some books to share during the break – it is free to join and free to borrow books!
Please remember to sign the reading diary when you have listened to your child and add a comment if possible. As you know we have provided each child with a bookmark. Every time they read at home they receive a sticker. Once they have 10 stickers they will be able to choose a prize from the class box.
Well done to those pupils who have already claimed prizes.
If you have a free morning or afternoon every week we would welcome you into school to listen to children read. Please see Mrs McMahon or Mrs Begum for more information.
Mrs Hook will be leaving Spring Lane after 24 years at the school. We wish her all the best for the future and we will still be seeing her on a supply basis. We will be welcoming Mr Avery to the school. He will be joining the leadership team and will be teaching some Year 5 children until January 2015.
Year 1 – we are in the fortunate position that we are able to split year 1 into three smaller classes from after half term. The teachers will be Mr Biddle, Miss Wright or Miss Garner and Miss Clarke who will be sharing a class. If your child is in year 1 you will receive a separate letter informing you of your new classteacher.
We have appointed a sports coach to work with the children for PE lessons and after school activities. Her name is Mrs Bates and she will be working every Tuesday and Friday until Christmas. From January she will be with us five days a week.
You should have had a letter to complete and return to select activity clubs for your child. If they have a place in a paid club please ensure payment is handed in to the school office as soon as possible.
Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)
We are arranging workshops and drop-in sessions for parents with CAB. If you would like to speak to some please see Mrs Greenfield or Miss Mayhew to make an appointment to speak to a CAB Advisor.
We have arranged for weekly sessions for adults to come in and improve their English while also completing craft activities. Please see Mrs Greenfield or Miss Mayhew to reserve your place.
