A very warm welcome to all our parents and children, new and old. The children have settled well and are making new friends and getting used to the routines of the day. This term the children will be doing lots of activities related to the theme of 'All about me'. Amongst other things they will be finding out about their senses, how we keep clean and healthy, and developing their gross motor skills by climbing, balancing and running outside. Below are a few photos of the children exploring different activities over the past few weeks.
This terms theme is all about transport and journeys, the children will be learning about lots of different types of transport, their journey to nursery and how people travel around doing different jobs.We started with a story about a little boats journey, the children have had a go at making their own boats and then floating them on water. This week Ella brought in her 5 little ducklings, the children were very excited to see them and were very good when they watched them have their first swim in the little baby bath,( there are some photos below )
Over the past few weeks the children have been busy exploring the world of mini-beasts.They have enjoyed lots of stories about bugs including 'Superworm', 'What the ladybird heard' and 'The giant jam sandwich' We have done lots of activities, we made a worm world, went on a bug hunt in the garden and had a picnic after making our own jam sandwiches! Here are a few pictures of our activities and art work.
This week the children listened to the story of 'The very hungry caterpillar' They were very excited when we got our own caterpillars, they are going to watch them grow and develop and are really keen to see them turn into butterflies. There have been some great paintings of butterflies and the hungry caterpillar. Our beans have grown really big now and are almost ready to go home. Thank you to all those parents who attended their child's progress meeting this week, the staff are very pleased with all their progress.
This week the children have been talking about what a seed needs to grow, they planted their own runner bean seed and are keen to see how long it takes for them to grow. On Thursday it was World Book Day and all the children came dressed as their favourite character, the staff also took part and were dressed as 'Aliens in underpants!'
The children have been busy exploring some new activities this week. We have a builders construction corner inside where they can pretend to build houses and towers etc Out in the garden we have a texture kitchen where the children can explore natural materials by mixing them together using some old pots, pans and kitchen utensils. Our theme this term is Spring and life cycles, we will be talking about what happens during springtime, looking at how plants grow as well as the life cycles of a chicken, a butterfly and a frog.
The children have been very busy over the last few weeks, they decided that they would like an ice cream parlour as we had been talking about ice and things that were cold, they all enjoyed adding their own toppings to the real ice cream which we had. To celebrate the Chinese new year of the rooster they made paper drums and lanterns and enjoyed eating rice, noodles and vegetable spring rolls.
Our theme this term is winter, the children will be learning about winter weather ( Hopefully we will have some more snow!), the properties of ice, arctic animals and much more. This week the children have been experimenting with mixing their own white paint and adding a bit of glitter to paint some winter pictures. They have also been making snowmen using different types of media. Next week we are going to be looking at ice and talking about melting and freezing. The children have also started doing 'Jump start Jonny' which is a music and movement programme to develop the children's strength and co-ordination.
The children have settled well into their new surroundings this week, they have had lots of fun exploring all the different areas and have particularly enjoyed playing outside with the children from the reception classes. Here are a few photos showing some of the things they have been doing.
